The department is headed by the Director of Immigration and
National Registration. Assisted by two Deputy Director; one responsible for Immigration
affairs and the other for National Registration affairs. Under Immigration section,
presently there are two appointed Assistant Directors by which one of them controls the
Work Pass together with the Visit Visa and Diplomatic Section and the other one controls
the Enforcement and Control Post Section.
There are currently 11 sections;

Section
Administration
and Finance Section
Headed by an Administrative Officer Special Grade
- Dealing with administrative and personnel matters
- Dealing with financial matters such as salaries, allowance as well as
revenue collection
- Preparing annual budget and development projects
- Handling office equipment, furniture, stationaries, etc.
Research,
Development and Computer Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
- Research and planning for both short and long term such as setting up
of new control posts, new office buildings, etc.
- Planning, research and implementing information system development
for present and future system
- Staff training
- Planning, reviewing and improving
- Efficiency and quality services to the public
- Act and Regulation
Work Pass Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
- Issuing work pass to foreigner for employment in Brunei Darussalam
- Issuing dependent pass to the wife or children of the holder of a
valid employment pass
- Enforcing the marriage control procedure to foreigner who wishes to
marry the citizen and permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam
Visit Visa and Diplomatic
Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
Visas are required by foreign nationals to enter Brunei Darussalam
for whatever purpose.
Travel
Document Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
- Processing and issuing passports and other travel documents to
citizens of Brunei Darussalam and permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam in accordance
with The Passport Act and Regulations
- Types of Passport / Travel Documents:
Control Post
and Statistic Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
- This section is responsible for administrating and controlling the
entry and exit points.
- There are 9 immigration checkpoints throughout Brunei Darussalam,
which are:
- Brunei International Airport Berakas
- Putat (Officially open on 1 Januari 2004)
- Kuala Lurah, Brunei / Muara District
- Sungai Tujuh, Kuala Belait
- Puni, Temburong
- Muara Deep Port
- Anduki Airport, Seria
- Custom Wharf, Kuala Belait
- Serasa Ferry Terminal
- Labu, Temburong
- Responsible in collecting statistical data.

Entry Permit
Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
- To consider application for Permanent Resident status. Entry Permit
will be issued to the successful applicant.
- To issue and renew Re-entry Permit/Visa.
Enforcement
Section
Headed by Senior Chief Immigration Officer
It is the department responsibility to prevent illegal entry by foreigners into the
country.
- To ensure no infringement of immigration laws
- To contain the problem of illegal immigrants
- To prosecute violators of immigration laws
- To recommend offenders to be indexed or blacklisted
- Other duties include : Intelligence, Investigation, Tracking,
Interrogation, Patrolling & Repatriation
National Registration Section
Headed by Chief National Registration Officer
- This section is responsible for issuing identity cards in accordance
with the National Registration Act and Regulations:

Registration
of National Section
Headed by Senior Chief National Registration Officer
- Process application to obtain nationality as citizen of His Majesty
The Sultan of Brunei.
- Verification of nationality in accordance to section under the Brunei
Nationality Act.
Birth and Death and Adoption Registration Section
Headed by Deputy Senior Registrar for Birth and Death
- Register all births and deaths in Brunei Darussalam.
- Process application for child adoption in Brunei Darussalam
