Introduction of
Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
- MRP was first introduced on 2nd
August 1993
- The implementation of the project are the printing and issuing of the
passports and the other are the installation of "Inspection Readers" at all
Control Post
- Up to September 1998, 131,956 MRP have been issued
Computer System
Presently the department have two main system which are
- Immigration Control System
This system records the movements of person entering and leaving Brunei, on-line
blacklist screening as well as updates on immigration records, passes, permits and visas
and prints Overstayers List
- National Registration / Registration
of National System
The system is based on population database such as citizens of Brunei Darussalam and
Permanent Residents of Brunei Darussalam. The MRP Issuance System is connected to this
System
The Computer system is also integrated with the Labour Department in
terms of data sharing, employers' information & license information and labour work
pass.
