Identity Card Application

Under section 6 of the National Registration Regulations

"(2) All persons within Brunei on the first day of March 1965, the date of the coming into operation on the National Regulation Act, (except such persons as are exempted under the regulation 25) shall within a period of one year from the aforesaid date report to a Registration Officer and register in accordance with these Regulations"


Types of Smart Identity Card

- Citizens of Brunei Darussalam
- Permanent Residents of Brunei Darussalam
- Foreigners staying in the country for a period of more than 3 months.

New Smart Identity Card


Smart Identity Card (Yellow)

  • Prerequisite Requirement

    • Only the citizens of Brunei Darussalam are eligible to apply
    • Applicant at the age of 12

  • How do I apply this card ?

    • To apply for it, he/she is required to lodge personally directly to the national registration section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the card?

    • Original and a copy of Birth Certificate
    • Original and a copy of Nationality Certificate (if applicable)
    • Original and a copy of Father's Identity Card (if applicant's father is a military or police personnel)
  • Validity

    • 5 years (after the validity period the applicant should renew the card)

  • Processing

    • 7 working days

  • Fees of the card

    • BND$15.00
      ($10.00 for the Card & $5.00 for Digital Photo)


Smart Identity Card (Purple)

  • Prerequisite Requirement

    • Only 'Residence Permit' or 'Entry Permit' and 'stateless' holders are eligible to apply for it
    • Applicant at the age of 12

  • How do I apply this card ?

    • To apply for it, he/she is required to lodge personally directly to the national registration section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the card?

    • Original and a copy of Birth Certificate
    • Original and a copy of Entry Permit/ Residence Permit
    • Original and a copy of Passport (if applicable)
  • Validity

    • 5 years (after the validity period the applicant should renew the card)

  • Processing

    • 7 working days

  • Fees of the card

    • BND$20.00
      ($15.00 for the Card & $5.00 for Digital Photo)


Smart Identity Card (Green)

  • Prerequisite Requirement

    • Any foreigner staying in the country for more than 3 months

  • How do I apply this card ?

    • To apply for it, he/she is required to lodge personally directly to the national registration section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide the card?

    • Original and a copy of passport
  • Validity

    • According to period issued stated in the passport

  • Processing

    • 21 working days

  • Fees of the card

    • BND$20.00
      ($15.00 for the Card & $5.00 for Digital Photo)




Replacement Smart Identity Card


Smart Identity Card (Yellow)

  • Prerequisite Requirement

    • Citizen of Brunei Darussalam
    • Applicant at the age of 17
    • After each validity period usually 10 years
    • Lost or tampered card

  • How do I apply this card ?

    • To apply for it, he/she is required to lodge personally directly to the national registration section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the card?

    • Original of the previous Identity Card
  • Validity

    • 10 years (after the validity period the applicant should renew the card)

     

  • Processing

    • 7 working days

  • Fees of the card

    • Due to validity period - BND$15.00($10.00 for the Card & $5.00 for Digital Photo)
    • Due to lost
      (1st Lost  - BND$25.00)
      (2nd Lost - BND$55.00)
      (3rd Lost  - BND$105.00)

New Birth Certificate Application

  • How do I apply this certificate ?

    • To apply for it, any related person (close relative) can lodge directly to the birth, death and adoption section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the certificate?

    • Original and a copy of both the Parent's Identity Card
    • Original and a copy of the Informer's Identity Card (if the informant are not the parent of the newborn child)
    • Original and a copy of Marriage Certificate
    • Original and a copy of both the Parent's Passport (if applicant's parent is a foreigner)
    • Original and a copy of Certificate of Conversion to Islam for those newly converted
    • Original and a copy of Death Certificate for the deceased father of the newborn child (if applicable)
    • Original and a copy Certificate of Divorce of both parents during time of pregnancy (if applicable)

  • Processing

    • 7 working days


Abstract of Birth Certificate Application

  • Processing

    • 7 working days

  • How do I apply this certificate ?

    • To apply for it, any related person (close relative) can lodge directly to the birth, death and adoption section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the certificate?

    • Original and a copy of the Deceased Identity Card
    • Original and a copy of the Deceased Passport (applicable for foreigners only)
    • Original copy of Certified Form from the Medical Officer ('Form F')
    • Original and a copy of the Informer Identity Card
    • Original and a copy of Certificate of Conversion to Islam

  • Processing

    • Medical - 7 working days
    • Non- medical - 21 working days


Abstract of Death Certificate Application

  • How do I apply this certificate ?

    • To apply for it, any related person (close relative) can lodge directly to the birth, death and adoption section of the department.

Child Adoption Application

  • How do I apply this certificate?

    • To apply for it, adopted parents need to lodge directly to the birth, death and adoption section of the department.

  • What do I have to provide to get the certificate if the child is Brunei citizen and permanent resident?

    • Original and two copies of the Adopted Child's Birth Certificate
    • Original and two copies of Marriage Certificate of the Adopted Parent
    • Original and two copies of both the Adopted Parent's Identity Card
    • Two copies of certified letter from the Child's Parent
    • Original and two copies of both the Parent's Identity Card
    • A copy of Statutory Declaration from Legal Department attached with a B$5.00 Brunei stamp together with Permit Form (issued by the department)

  • What do I have to provide to get the certificate if the child is a foreigner?

    • Original and three copies of the Adopted Child's Birth Certificate
    • Original and three copies of Marriage Certificate of the Adopted Parent
    • Original and three copies of both the Adopted Parent's Identity Card
    • Three copies of certified letter from the Child's Parent
    • Three copies of Certificate of Adoption from the country of origin
    • Original and three copies of both the Parent's Identity Card
    • Three copies of Statutory Declaration from Legal Department attached with a B$5.00 Brunei stamp together with Permit Form (issued by the department)
