Travel Document

The Travel Documents Division is responsible for issuing travel documents to citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam. Travel documents can be applied for at the Immigration and National Registration Department Headquarters or at the Department's branches in other districts.

People are advised to download the Application QueUp from the Appstore or Googleplay and reserve a queue number in advance. Application by walk-in is still operating as usual. There is also a special counter for senior citizens and children under 5 years old.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Official passports are issued to citizens of Brunei Darussalam who have received permission from the Prime Minister's Department.

Uses: For official duty/visit abroad purposes

Specifications: Biometrics

Fee: Free

Validity: Expiry period: 5 years

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Diplomatic passports are issued to citizens of Brunei Darussalam who have received permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Use: For duty purposes / official visits abroad

Specifications: Biometric

Fee: Free

Expiry period: 5 years

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

General Certificate of Identification (GCI) issued to citizens of Brunei Darussalam. 

Uses: For the purpose of visiting abroad limited to Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan only

Specifications: Machine Readable

Fee: BND$35.00

Fee for entering/adding children's information in the father's/mother's Ordinary Identification Certificate (maximum 4 children aged 11 years and below): Free

Validity: 10 years

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Brunei Certificate of Identity (CI) issued to Permanent Residents of Brunei Darussalam.

Use: For overseas travel purposes

Specifications: Machine Readable

Fee: BND$50.00

Expiry period: 5 years.

Note: Holders of this travel document are advised to check visa requirements for the country they wish to visit before travelling abroad.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Emergency Certificate issued to Brunei Darussalam Citizens who loss or damage of travel documents while abroad and for infants born abroad whose father is a legal citizen of Brunei Darussalam. Issued by the Brunei Darussalam Representative Office abroad.

For the purpose of re-entry into Brunei Darussalam

Fee: BND$20.00

Expiration period: This certificate is valid for use within 6 months from the date of issue and for one trip to Brunei Darussalam only.

LOSS OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Application in Brunei Darussalam for those aged 12 and above

Required documents:

  • Application form
  • Identity Card (original and copy)
  • Police warrant card/RBAF card (original and copy)
  • Birth certificate (original and copy)
  • Entry Permit Card (if applicable) (original and copy)
  • Police report
  • Complaint letter for lost passport
  • Affidavit from the court
    Fee:
    Fees are charged based on the type of travel document and surcharge fees (not
    including passport renewal fees) as follows:
  • First time: BND$150.00
  • Second time: BND$300.00
  • Third time and onwards: BND$450.00
Application in Brunei Darussalam for those aged 12 and below

Required documents:

  • Application form
  • Birth certificate (original and copy)
  • Father and mother's Identity Cards (original and copy)
  • Father's police warrant card / RBAF card (original and copy)
  •  Marriage certificate for the applicant's father and mother (original and copy)
  •  Divorce certificate for father and mother (if applicable) (original and copy)
  • Letter from the court for adopted children (if applicable) (original and copy)
  • Entry Permit Card (if applicable) (original and copy)
  • Police report
  • Complaint letter for lost passport
  • Affidavit from the court
    Payment:

    (excluding passport renewal fees) as follows:
    1. First time: BND$150.00
    2. Second time: BND$300.00
    3. Third time and onwards: BND$450.00
Applications outside Brunei Darussalam for those aged 12 and below

 Reminder:

 Any lost travel documents whether in Brunei Darussalam or abroad and HAS BEEN REPORTED MISSING   to any police station CANNOT BE USED FOR TRAVELING ANYMORE. 

 Any travel documents that are reported lost and found are advised to be handed over to the Immigration and National Registration Department. This reminder should be followed to avoid any problems that may arise during your trip abroad.

 Reminders:

 Any missing or lost travel documents either in Brunei Darussalam or overseas which are being REPORTED at police stations but later   FOUND AGAIN SHALL NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY TRAVEL. It is being advised for the travel documents to be handed over to the   Department of Immigration and National Registration.

 This reminder must be adhered to prevent any complication on future travels.

DAMAGE TO TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Application in Brunei Darussalam

It is advisable to renew damaged passports to avoid future problems. Payment is subject to the decision of the officer on duty. For further information, applicants are advised to contact the travel documents section directly.
