Citizenship Services
Division Pendaftaran Taraf Kebangsaan is responsible for processing applications for citizenship status of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. This division also provides confirmation of citizenship status in accordance with the Chapters provided under the Brunei National Registration Act, Chapter 15. Administer, Enforce and Implement Laws and Regulations Under the Brunei National Status Act, Chapter 15. Receive and Process Applications for Citizenship Status to Become Citizens of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PEOPLE TO HIS MAJESTY THE SULTAN AND THE DI-PERTUAN OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
Responsibility to Society
a. Collaborate with local leaders, such as Penghulu and Village Head
b. Involve in community welfare activities, government or non-government bodies, for example the Village Consultative Council, Youth Associations, Sports Clubs and others.
c. Helping those in need
d. Interact with neighbors and the general public

Responsibility to Family
a. Build and guide family members to be knowledgeable, moral/good-natured, respectful of family members, neighbors and friends.
b. Building a good family institution
c. Familiarization with the daily customs and traditions of the Brunei people.
d. To immerse oneself and one's children in the 'Orang Brunei' way of life, particularly in social interactions and the use of the Malay language in daily speech.
MATTERS THAT CAN CAUSE LOSS OF BRUNEI CITIZENSHIP
CHAPTER 9(1)
Has remained outside of Brunei Darussalam for 5 consecutive years and failed to provide satisfactory evidence of maintaining effective links with the country during that time.
CHAPTER 9(5)(a)
They have voluntarily acquired the nationality or citizenship of any country outside of Brunei Darussalam.
CHAPTER 10
If a citizen of the Sultan who is of full capacity makes a declaration in the prescribed manner renouncing their status as a subject of the Sultan by way of an oral oath (lafaz), the Sultan shall order that the declaration be registered; and upon registration, that person shall cease to be a citizen of the Sultan.
CHAPTER 11(1)
A citizen of the Sultan shall cease to be such a subject if that status is revoked from them by an order of the Sultan in Council made under this chapter.
CHAPTER 11(2)
Subject to the provisions of this chapter, the Sultan in Council may by order deprive any person of their status as a citizen of the Sultan,
- by registration; or
- with the establishment of a national standard
of that status if His Majesty is satisfied that the registration of such person or the certificate of national status granted to him under this law was obtained by fraud, false representation or concealment of any material statement or was made or given in error;
Provided that no person shall be deprived of the status of a subject of the Sultan under the provisions of this chapter on the grounds of mistake, unless a notice of the intention to do so has been given to him or published in the Government within a period of twenty-four months from the date of registration or the grant of a certificate, as the case may be.
CHAPTER 11(3)
(a) They have shown by act or speech themselves to be disloyal or disaffected towards the Sultan;
(b) They have exercised the rights, powers, or privileges available under any other nationality or citizenship other than that of Brunei Darussalam;
c) They have unlawfully communicated or traded with an enemy during a war, with the knowledge that such communication could assist the enemy;
(d) They have, within a period of 5 years after being registered as a subject of the Sultan by way of Registration or Naturalisation, been sentenced in any other country to death or to imprisonment for a term exceeding 12 months, and have not received a forgiveness;
OPERATING TIMES
The Reception Counter of this Division is open 5 days a week, Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 8 am to 11.45 am and 1.30 pm to 3.45 pm. All applications and inquiries regarding the status of applications can be made directly at the counter in this Division.
