Smart card identity section is responsibles in issuing identity card to the eligible Brunei Darussalam's citizen, permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam and foreigners. Smart card identity can be applied at the department's headquarters or any of its office branch at all districts.

Walk in facility for travel documents application is available. However, public is highly encourage to download QueUP application via Google Play or App Store and book in advance for queue application slot. This will enable public to reduce their waiting time and guaranteed their queue slot for application.

Application process period can be found under client's charter information.

  1. Type of smart card identity and application category:


Yellow Smart Card Identity is issued to Brunei Darussalam citizen who reached the age of 12 years old.



Purple Smart Card Identity is issued to Permanent Resident of Brunei Darussalam who is holding a valid immigration entry permit pass and who reached the age of 12 years old. 




Green Smart Card Identity is issued to a foreigner holding a valid immigration pass and intended to stay in Brunei Darussalam for a period of more than 3 months.



Documents required for replacement of smart card identity:

Expired smart card identity while outside Brunei Darussalam

Students or those who undergo medical treatment overseas are advice to inform Brunei Darussalam's missions overseas in the situation of expired smart card identity.  The holder can renew their identity card once they arrive back to Brunei Darussalam and related documents will be required.


Any person who fails to register or re-register at or within the time required, is liable for a compound not more than BND$200.00.
