IDENTITY CARD

​​​The Identity Card Division is responsible for handling applications for identity cards for Brunei Darussalam citizens, Brunei Darussalam Permanent Residents and qualified foreign nationals. 

Identity Card applications can be applied at the Headquarters, Immigration and National Registration Department or at the Branch Office in other districts. 

Types of Identity Card Applications by category:

Types of Identity Card Applications by category:

Yellow Identity Card

Yellow Identity Card issued to:

  •  Citizen of Brunei Darussalam
  • Have reached the age of 12 years and above.
Purple Identity Card

Purple Identity Card issued to:

  • Permanent Resident of Brunei Darussalam
  • Valid Entry Permit / Resident Permit Card Holder
  • Have reached the age of 12 years and above.
Green Identity Card

Purple Identity Card issued to:

  • Permanent Resident of Brunei Darussalam
  • Valid Entry Permit / Resident Permit Card Holder
  • Have reached the age of 12 years and above.
Applications outside Brunei Darussalam for those aged 12 and below

Required documents:

  •  Application form
    Birth certificate (copy)
  • Father and mother's Identity Cards (copy)
  • Father's police warrant card / RBAF card (if applicable) (copy)
  • Marriage certificate for the applicant's father and mother (copy)
    Divorce certificate for father and mother (if applicable) (copy)
  • Letter from the court for adopted children (if applicable) (copy)
  • Entry Permit Card (if applicable) (copy)
  • Police report
  • Letter of authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Payment receipt (including surcharge payment)
    Payment:
    Fees are charged based on the type of travel document and surcharge fees (not
    including passport renewal fees) as follows:
    1. First time: BND$150.00
    2. Second time: BND$300.00
    3. Third time and onwards: BND$450.00

Identity card that is invalid while abroad

Brunei Darussalam citizens who are studying or undergoing treatment abroad are advised to report their expired identity cards to the nearest Brunei Darussalam Representative Office or High Commission Office. Identity Card holders can renew their Identity Cards upon arrival in Brunei Darussalam. 

Compound Fine

Based on Regulation 24(3), National Registration (Amendment) Act 2000, if a person fails to register for an identity card on time, he/she may be subject to a maximum compound fine of not more than BND$200.00
